Defying Gravity at WICKED!

"What's your favorite musical?"
"Wicked."
"Wicked..."
So at musical theatre class, the girls loooved Wicked. I had never seen it, but when one girl in my class sang "Popular," I started getting interested. Eventually, I saw performances on YouTube of "Popular" and "Dancing Through Life", and ultimately "Defying Gravity" was the song that won me over. I had to see Wicked! So three months in advance, I booked my tickets to watch it in Dallas. Through the entire three-month period of waiting, I got hooked on the soundtrack and the story:

It takes place in the enchanted land of Oz, long "before Dorothy dropped in." In the movie The Wizard of Oz, we know blonde and pretty Glinda as "the Good" and ugly, green-skinned Elphaba as "the Wicked Witch of the West." But in Wicked, we find Glinda to be the truly Wicked one and Elphaba as the Good at heart. But despite their differences and initial "loathing" of each other, Glinda and Elphaba become best friends, until their choices and mistakes later in life cause them to become "Glinda the Good" and "The Wicked Witch of the West." And through all this, Wicked teaches that it's not who you present yourself to be on the outside, but who you are on the inside, that make you "Wicked."

So finally, on Sunday, June 13, I got to see Wicked.

(Photo above: We had great seats! When the cast wasn't on stage, you can see the map of Oz before the show and during intermission.)

Just as I expected, Wicked was the most incredible musical ever! Wicked was filled with elaborate costumes and sets, grand musical numbers, and a strong cast and ensemble. After the show, we got to meet the cast at the stage door:

(Photo above: Dominic Giudici as Chistery, the flying monkey, who was totally unprepared without a Sharpie to sign autographs, haha.)

(Photo above: Richard H. Blake as Prince Fiyero, who isn't very cute haha)

(Photo above: Chandra Lee Schwartz as Glinda! My favorite!)

(Photo above: Donna Vivino as Elphaba. She had a phenomenal voice!)

I came home with a green t-shirt and playbill signed by almost the entire cast (some were mean and just ignored the crowd waiting at the stage door, ugh! But at least I got the good ones!). I had the most amazing time Defying Gravity!
