I CHASED LAURA BUSH!

Yes, that's my story from opening day of the State Fair. If there's any day you want to go to the State Fair, it's the first day--because you get to meet celebrities. It turned out to be a rewarding day, seeing the weatherman from Channel 11 to Jason Castro from American Idol (whose family we happened to stand shoulder to shoulder to during Laura Bush's speech)--to the former first lady who cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony.

Did I really "chase" her? Yes, but I'll get to that later.

I've been looking forward to the 2009 State Fair since the day we left the 2008 State Fair. The day finally arrived, so I rushed through my homework, donned my Hello Kitty shirt (and Chuck, by the way) and headed straight there.

I made a fool of myself leaping behind the weatherman, who is, I'm sorry, just plain mean because he said we could take a picture after going live. Instead? He went back inside his truck and never came out. Just plain mean. Larry Mowry.
We also tried this year's fried winner, Fried Peaches and Cream. Definitely overrated. They shouldn't have put coconut. XP

And everyone always gets a free bag from the car show at the State Fair right? However, Jeep wanted you to climb their rock wall before giving you their green bags. One older lady couldn't have said it better, "Oh, the things we do..."
Finally, the highlight of the night: the State Fair 2009 Opening Ceremony. And what do you know? The special speaker was none other than former First Lady Laura Bush.

So what happened was, after the speech, Laura Bush was supposed to sit down and watch the parade. Instead, the people, eager to get a close picture of her, only blocked her view. At the end, we tried for a chance. The officers told us to move to the side.

So with the crowd watching from the side, they drove the former first lady out in a small car.

I screamed "WE LOVE YOU!"

She answered, "I love you guys."

The unknowing crowd who missed the opening ceremony made their astonished remarks, "...that's Laura Bush!"

And yes, we did chase her car around the State Fair--to the point that the Secret Service had to jump out and protect her.

At least we got a good shot!
